Innovating Water Delivery
The Evolution of Our Custom-Built Tankers
At Water Direct, we are committed to delivering the most efficient, reliable, and advanced water supply solutions. Our custom-built tankers are a testament to that commitment—designed from the ground up to meet the evolving demands of water utilities and infrastructure projects.

The Technology Behind our Water Tankers
We collaborated closely with our machinery manufacturer to anticipate every scenario our tankers might encounter, ensuring the software and hydraulic control mechanisms could respond perfectly in each situation, as well as the vehicle chassis itself being suited specifically to the environments it’s expected to work in.
Working with our supplier, our engineers adapted flow and pressure controls for water, fine-tuning the on-board plumbing for precise pressure and flowrate monitoring, and integrating a pumping system that uses CANbus technology. With variable-speed hygienic stainless steel pumps and pipe work, our tankers are capable of delivering up to 9 bar pressure, and flow rates of up to 850lpm. This means our rigid tankers can discharge in less than 30 minutes and our articulated tankers in less than 45 minutes.
When performing a Network Injection (or Mains Infusion depending on your parlance), the Tanker continuously monitors the pressure in the network, and self-adjusts the onboard pumping system to maintain the desired pressure. When pressure changes in the network are seen by the sensors, the pump can react in as little as 2.5 seconds to ensure autonomous safety of the operation.

Furthermore, when no flow is required by the network – for example during the middle of the night when network usage is low – the pumps will cease water movement, then shut-down the vehicle engine via CANbus control and continue to monitor the network pressure. Should the pressure in the network begin to drop, the pump system will re-start the vehicle engine and resume operation.
This approach minimises fuel consumption, reduces noise, and lowers emissions, making our tankers not only efficient but more environmentally friendly.
The tanker design itself was another key focus. We aimed to create the ideal combination of tank and chassis, prioritising:
- Maximum water-carrying capacity with a lightweight chassis
- High maneuverability and off-road capability
- The ability to connect multiple tankers for large-scale ‘mothership’ network injection
- Operator-friendly features for ease of use
After the first vehicles were produced, we spent months fine-tuning the system to ensure everything performed to our high standards before they began duty on live mains networks. The result is a fleet of tankers that offer unmatched performance, reliability, and versatility in water delivery.
